Balmer Lawrie faces ₹ 18.28 crore GST demand for financial year 2020-21

Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd. has disclosed receiving a demand order from the GST department under the CGST/KGST Act, 2017, pertaining to the financial year 2020-21. The order, issued on August 17, 2026, alleges short declaration of outward supplies and discrepancies related to the reverse charge mechanism, resulting in a total demand of ₹ 18.28 crore, comprised of ₹ 8.81 crore in tax, ₹ 8.59 crore in interest, and ₹ 0.88 crore in penalty. Additionally, the Appellate Authority in Karnataka has determined disputed amounts of ₹ 31.72 lakh (₹ 16.63 lakh tax, ₹ 13.36 lakh interest, and ₹ 1.73 lakh penalty), and the company is currently assessing the implications and potential legal remedies, stating the order is not expected to materially impact operations.
